Béatrice’s Aigrette et Saphir Earrings
To celebrate her daughter Béatrice’s 18th birthday, Myriam wished to give her a symbolic piece of jewellery. So she approached Catherine Daymard to design a pair of earrings. With this creation, mother and daughter strengthened their special bond under the kind and generous gaze of a designer who is as passionate about jewellery as she is about women who wear them.
Myriam, you asked Catherine Daymard to create a custom-made jewel for your daughter’s 18th birthday…
Myriam: I have known Catherine for a long time, so I didn’t hesitate to call on her. Celebrating important birthdays with jewellery is a tradition in our family, and turning 18 is a significant milestone! So I wanted a piece of jewellery for Béatrice as unique as this moment in her life. I discussed the idea with Béatrice, and she immediately loved it. My daughter was very involved in the selection and design of the jewel.
Béatrice: The creation of this jewellery was a truly special moment of bonding, not just with my mother but also with Catherine. She understood my wishes and brought to life a piece of jewellery that reflects my personality and lifestyle. I lead an active sport life, I have a busy student life, and my style can be both casual and sophisticated. I wanted a precious piece that would be easy to wear and accompany me in my everyday life. The idea of the Aigrettes, in beaded white gold and diamond, quickly came to Catherine’s mind. I love them so much that I never take them off, and I often receive compliments on them.
Catherine, how do you decypher your clients’ desires? How did Béatrice’s bespoke jewel come about?
Catherine: We took the time to have extensive discussions with Béatrice and her mother. It was important for me to fully understand what would please her and suit her personality. Béatrice liked the earrings from my collection inspired by the Maharaja ring. So, I designed a piece in that spirit, sophisticated and youthful, tailored to Béatrice’s life. Her eyes are a vibrant blue, and I immediately had the intuition that this color should guide the choice of the gemstone. On an appointment, I brought along a box of blue gems to identify which ones would best match her eyes. The choice became evident to us: a blue-grey sapphire.

What particular emotions does a bespoke piece of jewellery convey?
Myriam: I offered a necklace from a famous jeweler to Béatrice’s sister. The feeling was very different… Catherine is much more than just a jewellery designer: she gives humanity to her pieces. She spends time on them and takes a great interest in the life of the person who is going to wear it. A piece of jewellery is not just an ordinary object. It is a part of intimacy, a part of oneself that forms one with the person who wears it, and sometimes even for multiple generations. That’s why Catherine’s perspective makes all the difference.
Béatrice: Since this piece of jewellery is custom-made, I know that I won’t see it on anyone else. The fact that I was actively involved in its creation gives me the feeling of my own uniqueness, and I am deeply attached to it. Its story is mine.
Catherine: I am a mother of four boys. Accompanying Béatrice in this important moment of her life has been a source of joy for me. I was very happy and touched to be able to take part in the creation of a piece of jewellery that symbolizes the bond between a mother and her daughter. Even though Béatrice’s father was involved at the beginning, the making quickly turned into a story of women!
Myriam: The creation of a bespoke piece of jewellery is a process. It takes time to express your desires and specify your preferences. I like the idea of dedicating time, of connecting an object to the creative process, to the gestation period. This time adds even more value to the object. Value and joy. Because all the conversations with Catherine were full of cheerfulness, complicity, and humanity!
